# Introduction
Trust infrastructure for physical objects, as an API.
TAGBASE gives a physical object a digital identity that cannot be copied. Anyone
can check that identity by tapping the object with a phone, and they install
nothing to do it.
The platform is that identity layer, exposed as an API. You build everything a
person sees: the page, the app, the branding, the data behind the item. When you
need to know whether a tap was genuine, you ask the platform and it answers.
The first tap on an item returns `pending` and asks for a second one. A genuine
tag produces different data the second time, which resolves the check to `valid`.
A copy can only repeat itself, so it resolves to `invalid`. That is the whole
anti-cloning idea, and the rest of the API exists to get you to that answer.
